Established in 2005, the University of Baltimore School of Law Tackling Chronic Absenteeism Project (TCAP) in the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children and the Courts (CFCC) is one of Maryland’s longest running, in-school programs designed to improve attendance, mentor children and youth, support parents and caregivers, and prevent court system involvement. Formerly called the Truancy Court Program, TCAP has served more than 3,100 public school students and their families in 60 schools, 42 of which are in Baltimore City.
Nearly all of the students who participate in the TCAP live in neighborhoods with high levels of violence, trauma, transportation inconsistency, food insecurity, poverty and homelessness. These challenges impact students’ ability to show up to school consistently and ready to learn. As part of our holistic approach, TCAP provides concrete supports - such as clothing, food, transportation support, hygiene supplies and housing assistance - to our students and families. We also provide holiday gifts to TCAP families who are experiencing financial hardship.
We ask you to make a charitable gift that will help us provide material supports to as many of our TCAP students and families as possible. Here's how your donation can help TCAP students and their families:
$40 could provide a week-long food basket for a family of four,
a round trip care share ride to a medical provider or a backpack filled with supplies for the school year for one student.
$50 could provide two uniform shirts or three alarm clocks.
$100 could provide one night of emergency housing.
$250 could provide a weekend of emergency housing.
Thank you for helping to support Baltimore City students and their families.
Questions about supporting TCAP, including establishing a recurring gift, can be directed to annualgiving@ubalt.edu. To donate by mail, please make your check payable to The University of Baltimore Foundation and include “TCAP” in the memo line.
