The Diana Gibson Opportunity Award
for Excellence in Public Service
The University of Baltimore is honored to steward The Diana Gibson Opportunity Award for Excellence in Public Service. This special award, created in memory of Diana Gibson, will provide professional development opportunities for College of Public Affairs students who exemplify Diana's commitment to public service.
Diana inspired hundreds of elementary school students during her 25 year teaching career in Baltimore. In her second act, Diana provided invaluable support to UBalt president Kurt Schmoke during his 1987 mayoral campaign and throughout his 12 years in office. She also served as staff assistant to the late Congressman Elijah Cummings and was serving in the same role to Congressman Kweisi Mfume at the time of her passing.
Diana is remembered as a beautiful, brilliant, and regal individual who worked throughout her lifetime to improve the world. She is mourned by her husband of almost 50 years, Larry; her son, Steven; her daughter-in-law, Cicely; and her precious grandson, Gavin.
